Here’s Why George Kambosos Jr. Win Over Lopez Was One Of The Greatest Victories In Combat History

When it comes to The Ferocious One’s historic win over Lopez, most are viewing it as the upset of the year. However, November 27th wasn’t just a night where the underdog became THE top dog, not even close. It was a night that carried more significance than anyone could fathom.

It all starts with ambition, followed by momentum built from attrition. And as for George Kambosos, he always believed that he was more than just a boxer, more than just a fighter turned provider. And in one night, he claimed supremacy as his cosmic vision unfolded for the world to witness in awe.

Intuition for superstardom was what he saw all along, and when the ferocious one faced Teofimo Lopez, the world and everything in it became his.

Here’s why Sparta’s bravest son’s win was one of the greatest victories in combat sports history:

1- George Kambosos became the greatest fighter in Australia’s history

Australia has produced many champions throughout the rich history of boxing. The likes of Jeff Horn, Kostya Tszyu and plenty of other champions have edged their name in the history books.

However, when it comes to George Kambosos, he hasn’t competed in Australia since 2017. Instead, his last three fights were against champions and former champions in their backyards, and the ferocious one still dominated and displayed a fierce character against all odds.

2- George Kambosos became the most accomplished fighter in Australia’s history

In boxing’s decorated history, not only have we barely seen a champion able to collect all marbles, but we’ve never seen an Australian attempt to unify all belts once they became champions. And what did Kambosos do in one night?

Well, with the entire world rooting against him, the ferocious one went from the challenger to the man holding all belts at lightweight, and most importantly, the father of three just became the face of not just his nation but arguably the face of an entire sport.

3- George Kambosos produced the greatest performance from a challenger on away soil.

When I had the honour of talking to George a few weeks before his monumental win, I told him that I believe that he’s cut from a different cloth. From the cloth that Tyson Fury, Loche, Lennox Lewis are cut from. Going to the backyards of the champions while playing the role of the nomad challenger.

Out of all the great performances we’ve seen from the challengers on away soil, I believe that George Kambosos produced the most dramatic theatre of all challengers in boxing history.

From the early knockdown to the display of his unfathomable character of getting up from the floor in the 10th, to then go on and dominate the championship rounds to stamp his claim as simply the best. I have yet to witness anything like it.

4- He told you exactly what he was going to do, and then he did it

Coming into the fight, everyone was calling Teofimo Lopez Sr. “Nostradamus” as he predicted his son’s career trajectory since turning pro. And until November 27th, the man was undefeated with his predictions and claims. However, the real Nostradamus that night was George Kambosos Jr.

Not only did he(Kambosos) predict that he was going to catch Lopez early, but he also told me that if the tides were to shift somehow in the fight, he’d gladly run towards the tides of danger, simply to show that he wants it more than Lopez.

And what happened? Well, after the knockdown in the 10th, Kambosos arguably found the most success in the fight right after getting dropped by dominating the championship rounds.

5-George Kambosos BEAT the game.

On August 21st, I released a video on why I believe it was George’s destiny to become undisputed on the 27th. And on fight night, I received a text from a friend asking me what’s the point of betting on George Kambosos since the fight is taking place in Teo’s hometown.

Unfortunately, we’ve seen away fighters get robbed of their earned victories due to the favouritism of the hometown fighters. However, George Kambosos was destined for glory that night, and no one was taking it away from him.

How many times have we seen a challenger get robbed in the champion’s hometown? Sadly, we see it more than we’d like. And based on that fact, George Kambosos wasn’t supposed to leave with all the belts. The referee even raised Teofimo’s hand before the final decision got announced. The irony is just undeniable.

Moreover, the first round was scored 10-9 for Kambosos on two scorecards which is mind-boggling considering the heavy knockdown George scored.

Still, on the night, George’s purpose was potent & powerful beyond the sport. That’s why we rightfully so heard “And The New.” No one was disrupting his destiny.

Forget all the accolades and shiny belts. George Kambosos just produced the most inspirational, hope-filled story that Hollywood’s finest writers could never script.

Always, George Kambosos was picked last in the school’s sports teams or even in playgrounds activities. However, on October 27th, George Kambosos Jr. took control of his destiny and became first, not in a school race, not even in Manny Pacquiao’s training camp, but first in the entire world. Numero Uno, the superior fighter from his foes, the only way a spartan knows.

I told you he was going to do it, just like the late Stephen Donkin told a young George Kambosos that he will become a champion.

The epiphany continues…
