UFC 276: Donald Cerrone Is Fighting Jim Miller For The Record Of Most UFC Wins. But At What Cost?

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is fighting Jim Miller on short notice after Joe Lauzon withdrew from the bout due to health problems caused by weight cutting.

The only interesting fact about this fight is this: The victor on Saturday will hold 24 UFC wins, which is the most in the company’s young history. Aside from that fact, the real point of discussion here is at what cost is Cerrone still fighting?

Here’s my take on Donald Cerrone: Unquestionably, Cerrone is one of the most beloved fighters in the company, and when he was at his best, he certainly was game to mix it with the top guys. However, watching Donald in the octagon in the last few years has been hard.

Cerrone has lost his last seven fights while he was knocked out in four of them. It’s evident that Cerrone’s punch resistance is far gone, and with him doing two gruelling weight cuts in the last four weeks, he’s more vulnerable and tender than ever.

I would have guaranteed you a Miller early finish if the contest took place at lightweight. However, the only reason Cerrone has a slight chance at minimal success is this: Jim Miller is taking the fight on short notice in a weight class he’s unfamiliar with.

History shows that Donald is more durable at welterweight. Still, I think Cerrone is completely shot, regardless of the circumstances that might help him.
